I am new here and have posted a few times. I want to learn more about addiction as I was involved with someone who had addictions, but was in harm reduction mode.
Since I wasn’t sure if this was effective, I sought the advice of a psychologist and a substance abuse counselor (CACIII), among others. What I found was how varied the approach to recovery is and no one could give me a straight answers…and maybe there are none.
So, do you think harm reduction is an effective approach? Does one still need to do the psychological/behavioral work too? Is abstinence and going to AA the only way to recover or do some people recover, but yet still use, but their use is greatly reduced.
This was always a big question in my mind being in a relationship with someone and I could never get a straight answer. Maybe there are none, but I just wanted to see what you all think and what you have found works.
