Hungry ghosts are pitiable creatures with huge, empty stomachs. They have pinhole mouths, and their necks are so thin they cannot swallow, so they remain hungry. Beings are reborn as hungry ghosts because of their greed, envy and jealousy. Hungry ghosts are also associated with addiction, obsession and compulsion.
I am dealing with the great “I want!” lately. Now that I don’t drink, I want stuff! Specifically, camera lenses. It could transfer to anything though, really. I am finding it really hard to stop thinking about stuff I want all the time.
PAWS comes into it, “obsessive, repetitive thoughts”.
I am in AA, doing the steps again, I did step 5 again the other day. I am not a Buddhist but enjoy reading Buddhist books and I meditate. I am trying to be spiritual but my mind is obsessed with “stuff”, material things.
If I could afford it, there would be no harm in buying a couple of lenses but then, I know I would want something else. And the fact is, that, really I cannot afford it. Lenses are expensive!
I am sick of it.
