    Hello,

I am pondering on how many people are on Methadone or were, your thoughts on this drug when taking it legal, I am interested in your story’s of anything from what it has done for you or against you, any side effects? you name it, I would like to hear it.

I have been on it since mid July of this year, I have no cravings for pill’s and tword my time I was fighting to get on it, something for I could not do it myself, anyway alot of changes being clean, well not being high anyway as I consider myself clean when I no longer depend on it, when I can function that is and live normal, a lot of questions liger in my head here, so I would like to read your story’s, I am not new on here, same user name, for the exception of the z at the end, I lost my memory, and have yet to entertain myself as i will read my posts on here when I was using, this is the first time I can add I am not using, I know that I could alot of ppl do , but i lost all desire to use and a lot of work to be done and doing getting my life back while I use this medication tool and what I can get out of the program…I would like to add that I can not take Suboxone for I am on legal Xanax and the combo an be lethal, many people have lost their lifes to this combo and some? have been lucky.

    Thanx:)

Boy, this is a loaded topic…. ((grin)) I would be happy to share my experience with methadone but probably only in a private message since most find it unsettling…

All I have to say was that I was in inpatient rehab for 28 days (opiates, and benzos).. There were numerous people in there for methadone DEPENDENCE.
There are many other ways to get off opiates; one way Subox..

Thnk you for sharing what you both could. Methadone and Suboxone are drugs that can get us high with the right dose, also both are addicting and thus can cause one to be dependant, sence i have been dependant on pills for 3 or so years, I had to do something legal and more so something that would be under a doctors or others control, I have no issues with anything , but pain killers did me in, i did my best to get off of them, i did my tapers, then would mess up, two doctors told me no to sub for i am on xanax and the como can be lethal…a drug i have taken in the 80’s 21 years and that is a fearful thought as i might loose it for gettting on the methadone, my shrink does not know of me being a addict and he will wheni see him this month, my plan and w/ my worker 6 months and now it has been 2 1/2 months into the methadone, i startesd on 10mgs for one weeks each week going up 5mgs, i was doing ok on the lower mgs, but i was suckered and listend to people say you have to up your dose to stay in here, o’ well shame on me. I did not want to feel the sudden high on methadone, the party for me was over a long time ago, now? I have blood in my urine and my liver needs to be looked into, the cost of getting high may just have costed me much more than i could ever know of, while i am not a fan of Methadone? I do not have to use to not get sick, however? the day is coming when I wean off and then being off I will feel not so great…

Many people really have done miricales and came off the pills or dope and went through Hell doing it, I wihed i could of and I did try, but was not able to, Mthadone was my only hope, i crave nothing and then again i craved nothing while fighting to get on it, odd but that is the way it went,

I was dependent on opiates for a little over 2 years. I went to detox; and they do a sub taper 5-7 days…

How do you plan on getting off of Methadone?? You don’t want to be dependent on methadone now…

It’s alot worse getting off of Methadone than it is opiates; thats just my opinion..

Methadone can get you high. That’s why I was on it for so many years. When used properly for opiate detox or maintenance, it can be a valuable tool. As a way to get through life, not a good idea in most cases. In clinics these days there are a lot of over medicated folks nodding. It was used better in the 70-80’s when it was more regulated. It’s not a cure all for long term narcotic addiction and in some cases it’s like putting out a fire with gas. It’s often though of by professionals as “harm reduction”. all the best

I have heard of the 7 day taper down w/ the sub it works for some and some? they need more time and then some. I can’t get on it for I am on Xanax and plan on being on it, many reasons, for one I have ben on it 21 years.

I plan on geting off of Methadone through the right way, the doctos and staff team.
I am opiate dependant now and now? already so on the Methadone, I had to go on it, I had no choice as my pill use was not legal, a lot of money, so much more to express, like I became psycotic during tapers that were just basic, for some reason? I am a mess more so that other addicts i have met and even read on here, some can just stop and have little issues some do and just go through it without becoming psycotic, example: I thought there was Demons in my home, I was fearful and anxity out. A lot of people do not like the Methadone route and even suboxone,

Anyway you are lucky to of had it easy geting clean. Thank you for sharing and all.

Thank you for this information, I started out this way and started 7/18th 10mgs for 1 week, 15 every week 3mgs and I stand at 35mgs, had no choice I wished I had, but none and I had to do something, for one I would become undone mentaly when on tapers and I do not forsee a easy time getting off of it, this is a 6 month deal here, I just pray that not allof my opiate cells are gone for on HBO show I found out it is possible for one to loose all opiate cellls and they do not grow back.

Thank you a lot for this info:

    Hi,

I know about suboxone and seen two doctors, no way will I be able to get on suboxone, for i take xanax 21 years… the combo is lethal, many people have died already, so what was I to do? I had tried a taper down and did a fantastic job doing it while I was lost, I mean I was psycotic I thought Demons were in my home and no I’m not religious and think like that of God and the devil I really thought this, I was really having other issues…that were messed up like my brother who is dead, was killed in a car accident 1990 I would see him decaying in his coffin, an image thought are what they are, I thought about buying a gun and the bullets I know where and who, I really was going to do this, the pills had there way with me, after a time frame I was sick on and barley on them, the detox inpatient Hosp. did not want me for i had been on xanax 21 years and they do not allow patients in their Hosp. that take Xanax, and they did not want to detox me off of Xanax, there was really no choice, I am on it and will do the best I am able to to get off of it with the doctors and other.

Sub is a drug that works way better, but has it’s issues, it is to be the miracle drug for us addicts, but then too many people are using this to get high, they compare this to methadone high? Sub is the talk around here, I did not get high geting on the methadone i went up 5mgs a week, I am active in getting back my life in all area;s not just methadone, all this is doing is perventing me from going through cold turkey, also I have heard a lot of positve story’s with the neg ones where I go they are strict no one is seen nodding out, they are weeding out the addicts that keep on getting dirty urines, they just take the person down and it is fast the way they do it, my b/f was droped 76mgs to 50mgs one shot for falling asleep in the lobby while he waited for me, while i was in orientation for almost 2 hours, no nurse checked on him to make sure he was OK, they took his take homes away from him, this is something that is not right. He has been on this crap for 3 years and all say neg things about Methadone it has a bad rep, soon sub will follow, already many people are messinmg with this drug, then again all drugs are, if it can make one high it is valued on the streets, some people have no insure and buy the sub and attempt to do a detox, my sister inlaw has and she was a mess a week after, just like methadone in for a week and about 3 days? the addict is sick all over again, but not always the case some people are lucky..
    Thank you for the info:

I think methadone maintenance gets a bad rap due to improper medical care.
My sister is a recovering heroin addict and methadone along with GOOD quality healthcare is what attributed to her recovery. Her doctor monitered her and dosed her in his care only. She was on methadone for 23 months and weaned off VERY slowly over that course of time. She attended a womans group at the clinic, individual counseling and again, her doctor overseen her entire care. She never got sick weaning off, but again it was a slow tapering process. She underwent a lot of critisism from family, friends and even from me, however watching her in recovery and research and eduction made me much less ignorant on the matter.
YES her story could have went very differently and I might feel differently I truly believe an opiate addiction can be managed with Methadone if done properly and under very careful supervision by health care professionals. I know there are doctors out there just prescribing it and not overseeing the plan properly.

Yes I have also read that Xanax and Suboxone can be a deadly combo. One of the women in my sister’s group purposely OD’d and committed suicide with the combo.

If 35 mg. per day is helping, that’s real good. It a very managable dose unlike the mega doses folks are on at clinics these days. Just remember, it will probably work diferently in a year or 2 as you may not get the same effect and need more and more. It’s a different drug when you get up around 100 or so and for me a bad drug! Sweating, paranoid, panic, depression and servere constipation. It so much better if you can keep the dose down to where you have it. all the best

    Thanks DoingWell,
My experience was very similar to your sisters. Methadone tx along with a 12 step program saved my life and gave me a chance to be right acting long enough for some right thinking to take effect. I am now almost 5 years clean/sober. It worked for me.
