I am sorry I am posting so much. I just need an outlet and this is the only place I have…

I am not feeling very hopeful right now so I just wanted to ask some questions.

    1. How Long have you been clean??
    2. Why did you decide to sober up?
    3. How did you do it?
    4. What was your doc??
    5. Do you still get cravings?

For me I have been clean since July 30th. I decided to sober up for myself and definitly for my 2yr old daughter.

I am doing it by trying to stay focused, taking it one day at a time, and by trying not to listen to my disease infested brain..

My doc was Tramadol (Ultram) I loved the highs…

I get cravings all the time.

Thank you in advance to everyone that takes the time to reply…

I’ve been off dope over 3 years. I drink beer every now and then. Do I still get cravings for dope….no, not really. The thought enters my head then I remember the chaos and I forget about it.

    1. How Long have you been clean??

IVE BEEN SOBER SINCE 8-11-90 by the grace of my HP and you people in these forums and for that Im truely grateful.

    2. Why did you decide to sober up?

It wasn’t my decision to stop drinking when i did. After a horrible accident in Feb.90 and a fast progression of my disease in a few months, I hit bottom and attempted to end my misery in Aug90 with consuming a handful of pain pills. Since the attempt failed my family stepped in and did an intervention on me doing for me what i couldnt do for myself.

    3. How did you do it?

A court order was issued and i was picked up by the police and was taken to the “crazy Ward” the first night, then rehab for the next 28 days where i recieved the tools of recovery, suggestions, hope, willingness to go to any lengths to stay sober and my faith in a Power greater than I to guide me.

    4. What was your doc??

Alcohol was my drug of choice and LOTS of it. I was pretty nieve to drugs esp. after someone dusted a joint i was smoking back in the 70’s which made me hallucinate weird things. That SCARED ME TO DEATH. So it was then and there that i made a decision to stick to what i knew best. Hmmmm Alcohol.

    5. Do you still get cravings?

Nope. The DESIRE to drink was lifted from me from the very beginning when i took those first 3 steps…..

……ADMITTING I WAS POWERLESS OVER ALCOHOL AND MY LIFE HAD BECOME UNMANAGABLE.

……TURN MY WILL AND LIFE OVER TO THE CARE OF A HIGHER POWER AS I UNDERSTAND (HIM, HER, OR IT.)

…..CAME TO BELIEVE IN A POWER GREATER THAN MYSELF COULD AND WOULD RESTORE ME TO SANITY.

    Thanks for letting me share.

    1. How Long have you been clean?? in 2 days it’ll be 18 months

    2. Why did you decide to sober up? b/c I couldn’t continue living the way that I was, and I was too chicken **** to kill myself

    3. How did you do it?I stopped taking the drugs, detoxed at my parrents house for a couple of weeks and got into NA when I could walk around again.

    4. What was your doc?? my preffered drug was heroin, but the last couple of years I was on methadone with sporatic runs of heroin and oxycontin….but in a pinch, I’d do what ever….alcohol, coke, cough syrup, freon…whatever…

    5. Do you still get cravings? Every once and a while, but not nearly as much as I used to right when I got clean, I practically spent my first few months crawling out of my skin from wanting to do sope so badly.

about 9 months, did it because I was trying to drug and drink myself to death. It’s been great. I have friends in AA, I just do stuff with them and the urge has pretty much totally left me. It has taken me 4 years to come to terms with this disease and many relapses however. But it feels better this time.
